What is an Interrogative Pronoun?

  •  Interrogative pronouns are pronouns which are used to ask questions.
  • Sentences containing interrogative pronouns are always questions,
  • So they always end with a question mark.
  • Interrogative pronouns mostly refer for something that we are not aware of up till now, that’s why we ask question about it.
There are five interrogative pronouns. Each one is used to ask a specific question.
  • What – Used to ask questions about people or object
Examples:

1. What do you want for lunch?

2. What is your uncle’s name?

3. What time are you supposed to be in your office?
  • Which – Used to ask questions about people or objects
Examples:

1. Which television brand do you prefer?

2. Which of these purses is yours?

3. He asked which bus to board.
  • Who – Used to ask questions about people
Examples:

1. Who is that?

2. Who was cycling in the morning?

3. Who is going to complete this task?
  • Whom –It is used to ask questions about people.
Examples:

1. Whom did you call yesterday?

2. Whom do you prefer to call for help?

3. Whom do you stay with?
  • Whose – It is used to ask questions about people or objects related to possession.
Examples:

1. Whose scooter is this?

2. Whose pencils are those?

3. Whose car is that?
