What is Pronoun?
- A pronoun is used in place of noun.
- Pronouns are usually short words and are used to make sentences less repetitive.
Persons
• First person (the speaker) (I, me, we, us)
• Second person (the person spoken to) (you)
• Third person (the ones spoken about) (he, him, she, her, it, they, them)
Genders
• Feminine – she, her
• Masculine – he, him
• Neuter – it, they, them
Example:
1. She is a nice girl.
2. He likes ice-cream.
3. It doesn't work
Numbers
• Singular – I, you, he, she, it, me, him, her
• Plural – we, you, they, us, them
Example:
1. I like to play cricket.
2. You may get good marks in this exam.
Subject/Object
• Subject-I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they
• Object- me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them
Examples:
1. I like tea. (‘I’ is subject pronoun as the pronoun is the subject of the sentence.)
2. Sanjay helped me. (‘Me’ is object pronoun as it is affected in some way by the subject of the sentence)
