A Clock

Question - How many hands do we see on this clock?

Answer: We see two hands on this clock.

  • The long hand is called the minute hand and
  • The short hand is called the hour hand.

Question- How many numbers do we see on this clock?

Answer: We see numbers from 1 to 12 on the face of a clock.

Note:

  • The minute hand moves faster than the hour hand.
  • The minute hand takes 1 hour to complete one round on the face of the clock and
  • The hour hand takes 12 hours to complete one round.

On the above clock, short hand i.e. hour hand is at number 7 and long hand i.e. minute hand is at number 12.The time is read as 7 o’ clock or 7:00.

 Note:

When minute hand points to number 12 and hour hand point to any number on the face of clock, the time is read as 0’clock.

Example: 7 o’clock, 4 o’ clock etc.

When the hour hand moves from number 7 to number 8, the minute hand completes one round. Now hour hand is at number 8 and the minute hand is at number 12, the time is 8 o’ clock.

1 hour = 60 minutes
