Look carefully at the following two lists of Nouns.

List 1 -
  • The nouns in list (1) are the general or generic name of person, place, animal and things.
  • They are called Common nouns.
  • Example: ‘boy’ can mean Ashok, Ravi, Jimmy or any other boy.
List 2 -
  • The nouns in list (2) are the special names of person, place, animal and things.
  • They begin with a Capital Letter.
  • They are called Proper nouns.
  • In the above List 2, it is referring to one particular boy whose name is Ashok.
