What are Nouns ?

A noun is a word that refers to

• a thing - book, table,tree etc.
  
• a person - Sanjay , girl, doctor etc.
• an animal - cat,tiger, mouse etc.
• a place - Mumbai, school etc.

Around us we see so many things. Everything that we see has some name. Example: computer, blackboard, chalk, book, teacher etc. All these are nouns.

Read the following Sentences. Highlighted words are nouns.

1. The cat is sitting on the table.
